JDS Uniphase

Business Objective: Stop customers from buying from the competitors… without a product.

Situation: JDS Uniphase is one of the leading electronic signal manufacturing companies in the world. JDSU had developed a breakthrough method of dealing with a particular technical problem encountered in fiber optics. However, their product would not be ready for release at an upcoming international conference - while the competition's solution was available and on display. To protect their market share, JDS Uniphase had to convince the market that their solution would be worth the wait.

The Mercury Solution: Mercury Multimedia distilled the complex engineering message into a 4-minute video that presented JDSU's approach to the problem without showing the yet-to-be-released product. The video was then shown at an international conference at their trade show booth.

Timeline: 3 weeks.

Results: At the conference, the JDS Uniphase booth was packed with prospective clients . . . despite their lack of shippable product. After the video played, JDS Uniphase received a standing ovation at the conference. The overwhelming response was attributed to the strength of the JDS Uniphase video.
